Ingredients needed for macher jhol:

To cook rui macher jhol, you will need the following ingredients:

● pieces of rui fish, cleaned and washed

● sliced potatoes 

● 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder

● Salt according to taste 

● 2 tablespoons of mustard oil

● 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds

● 1 bay leaf

● 2 dried red chilies

● 1 onion, finely chopped

● 1 teaspoon of grated ginger 

● 1 teaspoon of garlic paste

● 1 tomatoes, sliced 

● 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder

●1/4 teaspoon of coriander powder

●1/4 teaspoon of cumin powder

●1/4 teaspoon of garam masala powder

●2 green chilies, slit

●2 cups of water

● you can also use fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Preparation of macher jhol:

The steps to cook rui macher jhol are as follows:

1. Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt for 15 minutes.

2. Heat oil in a large frying pan over high heat and fry the fish pieces until golden brown on both sides. Drain the oil and keep the fried fish aside.

3. In the same oil, add cumin seeds, bay leaf, and dried red chilies. Fry for a few seconds until fragrant.

4. Add onion and fry until golden brown. Add ginger paste and garlic paste and fry for another minute.

5. Add tomato slices, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.

6. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce the flame and cook gently for 10 minutes.

7. Add the fried fish pieces and green chilies. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.

8. serve hot with steamed rice and dal.
